The increased activity along the Line of Control between Pakistan and Indian Kashmir appear to be the result of Indian troops using new thermal imaging sensors. These devices detect differences in heat and enable Indian border guards to better spot rebels trying to sneak through the mountains and forests that cover most of the 750 kilometer Line of Control. The number of rebels intercepted and killed has doubled. The thermal imaging equipment was obtained from Israel. Because of the new sensors, nearly a dozen line crossers a day are being killed, but the crossing attempts continue.
