The US is launching a campaign to have its share of UN peacekeeping costs cut from 30% of the total budget to 25%, and its share of the general UN budget from 25% to 22%. It faces a tough battle in getting the other nations to agree. The Europeans have refused, and the "developing" nations insist that they cannot afford to pay more.--Stephen V Cole
