During 1995, there were 559 attacks on Defense Department unclassified networks. This steadily rose to 730 in 1996 and 780 in 1997, then jumped to 5,844 in 1998 and skyrocketed to 22,144 in 1999. There were 5,993 attacks in the first quarter of 2000, putting the year on track to set a new
